In this episode we talk about Nat’s cancer diagnosis, Thailand gearing up for an Mpox outbreak, what it now takes to live long term in VN, and more…

The Worldwide Public Health Emergency

The WHO has announced Mpox as a “public health emergency of international concern”. BTW, Thailand has already started importing test kits and vaccines.

An old herbal remedy for treating smallpox that is thought to have been used by native Americans in the late 1800s has been found to kill the poxvirus.

Upon many studies over the decades, extracts of Sarracenia purpurea were found to be highly effective at inhibiting the replication of the virus.

Thailand Allocates 21 Million Baht For Mpox Vaccine For High-Risk Groups

Thailand’s Department of Disease Control (DDC) has allocated a budget of 21 million baht to purchase 3,000 doses of the mpox vaccine.

Dr Thongchai Keeratihattayakorn, director-general of the department, announced that the MVA-BN vaccine from Denmark is expected to arrive in four months and will be administered to high-risk individuals.

FDA Puts the ‘test’ In ‘protest’ Over Mpox Spread

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has swung into action, kicking off the registration process for Mpox (formerly monkeypox) diagnostic test kits amid growing fears over the viral infection’s spread.

I inherited my Fathers Volkswagen Beetle that he bought brand new in 1964. He paid $1985.83 total out the door. In Southern California the VW Beetles were so popular at that time, that when my Dad put in his order, he could not choose a color. He had to put his name on the waiting list and as new shipments of Beetles showed up at the dealership, when his name came up, he was told that he either took what ever color came up next, or he would go to the back of the list and wait until his name came up again. Luckily when my Dads name came up, it was a beautiful Red VW.

When I got the car, I completely restored it stock except for the shifter. Those old VW’s were real targets for theft in Southern California, so I installed a polished aluminum Gene Berg shifter that could be locked into reverse when parked. I would also use one of those steering wheel locks that were designed to go from the steering wheel to the break pedal, but I would instead lock it to the clutch peddle so someone could not step on the clutch and push the car away. I also installed a metal combination-lock sheath that fit over the parking brake handle so I could lock it when the parking brake was set. I also changed out the original engine compartment T-Handle with a locking T-Handle. Also, whenever parking I would open the engine compartment and remove the rotor from the engine and put it in my pocket.

It was such a chore doing all that every time I parked the car somewhere that I finally put it up for sale and sold it to a VW collector from Japan. He owned a VW parts and customization shop in Tokyo and would make trips to the U.S. each year to buy up a half dozen or so VW’s and also original VW parts. He dealt mostly with customized VW’s, but bought my VW to use as his daily driver and as an advertisement for his shop. That old Bug is probably still driving around on the streets of Tokyo to this day! :-)

My father bought a yellow one to use as a delivery vehicle for his pharmacy. I didn't even have a full license just a restricted one.

My father should have had what James had because after my parents went to sleep my sister and I would roll it out of the garage and push start it as we rolled down the street!!! We were bad apes for sure!!! 🐒
